Property consultancy JLL appointed to find a new tenant for Horizon Nuclear Power headquarters in Gloucester

The news follows parent company Hitachi’s announcement that it would suspend Horizon’s projects at Wylfa and Oldbury

Property consultancy JLL has been appointed to find a new tenant for Horizon Nuclear Power’s headquarters on Gloucester Business Park following its parent company Hitachi’s decision to suspend its UK nuclear development programme.

Earlier this year, Hitachi announced that it would suspend its involvement in building the UK’s next generation of nuclear power stations at Wylfa Newydd in north Wales and Oldbury in South Gloucestershire. Following this, Horizon Nuclear Power announced large scale redundancies at its Gloucester HQ.

The HQ building is called Sunrise House at 1420 Charlton Court, Gloucester Business Park, and was purpose built for Horizon in 2016.

Ian Wills, director of office agency at JLL’s Bristol office is handling the instruction to find a new tenant for the building. He commented: “I advised Horizon on its leasing of the building initially so have known them for some time and it is such a shame a high value employer of this type is reducing its presence.  We aim to identify another major organisation to take over Sunrise House.”

He continued: “Horizon has undertaken an extremely high quality fit-out and the building benefits from a restaurant, large shower and changing facility, meeting rooms, office furniture, excellent IT and telephone infrastructure as well as high level security features. It is only three years old and could save an organisation considering investing in a new premises millions of pounds in fit-out or build costs.”

The 52,000 sq ft building is currently arranged with 650 workstations and a secure self-contained car park with motorbike and cycle parking plus electric car charging points.

Gloucester Business Park is home to several of the county’s major employers including the NHS, Ageas Insurance, Laithwaites Wine and G-Tem.  The park recently announced major lettings to GE and Ecclesiastical Insurance. The site has direct access to junction 11A M5 and range of amenities including Tesco Extra, a gym, a pub, hotel and coffee shop.
