Just Eat completes largest letting deal in the North East
In the biggest letting ever recorded in the North East, food delivery platform, Just Eat, has signed a deal with Npower to lease Rainton House in Sunderland, a Grade A 217,339 sq ft office building comprising of four interlinked buildings arranged over ground and three upper floors.
BNP Paribas Real Estate acted on behalf of Npower and JLL represented Just Eat.
In the deal Just Eat has agreed to assign the lease on the office building that has been occupied by Npower since 2010.
Built in 2008, Rainton House is located within Rainton Bridge Business Park, an area that is home to many organisations offering contact centre services with tenants including EDF Energy, My World, E Volve, Sale Cycle and Work Cast. The business park continues to attract occupiers and in August, it was confirmed that a further two companies will also be taking space including national house builder Bellway Homes who are relocating their headquarters from Darlington.
Rainton House offers an attractive working environment; an impressive full-height atrium links all buildings and there are a number of desirable onsite facilities including a conference room, lecture theatre, wellness suite, product showroom, restaurant, gym, snack bar and a games room.
The property also benefits from excellent access to both the A1 and A19, providing the main arterial access between Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham.
Aidan Baker, Senior Director BNP Paribas Real Estate said: “Rainton House provides a fast growing and innovative firm like Just Eat, an unique opportunity to take space in a high quality Grade A headquarter office building, within a well-established business park environment. The building is fully fitted and provides the business with a modern open plan workplace, alongside excellent facilities that are important to help attract and retain talent and support the business in its continued growth. The deal demonstrates the attractiveness of the North East as an excellent location for progressive firms.”
Jeff Pearey of JLL, who advised Just Eat, said: “We received instruction from Just Eat last summer to begin our search for a substantial presence in the North East. After undertaking a detailed investigation of the options, it was clear that Rainton House was one of very few buildings that would meet the requirements of our client to house its new contact centre under a single roof. Having been involved in the scheme when it was originally delivered for Northern Rock in 2008, it is a pleasure to see that the building will have a new lease of life, which is a great result not only for the building, but also for the local community”
