JLL wins 33 of industry’s top environmental awards

Sustainability efforts of JLL teams continue to be rewarded at the Green Apples

December 03, 2018

The 2018 Green Apple Environment Awards has awarded top accolades to 33 JLL-managed commercial properties. The Green Apples wins demonstrate the growing success of the JLL Property Management teams, having secured 26 awards in 2017 and 13 in 2016.

Since being launched by The Green Organisation in 1994, the Green Apple Environment Awards has grown to become one of the most popular and prestigious environmental award initiatives in the world. The awards recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice internationally. Held annually, it now attracts entries from governments, ministries and regional authorities as well as companies and communities across the private and public sector.

Four Seasons shopping centre secured a Gold award for its engagement with tenants to improve recycling, Sandy Lane retail park took Silver for improving the local biodiversity with native planting on-site, and 110 Queen Street was awarded Bronze under the community category for its creation of an environmental forum for tenants. The most successful category for JLL-managed properties was Energy, with 12 awards won, thanks to initiatives such as LED lighting installations, on-site energy management programmes and building efficiency upgrades.

Initiatives that add value to society and benefit customers also featured strongly. The Glades in Bromley took Silver for its awareness-raising campaign on single-use plastics, Overgate shopping centre in Dundee won Bronze for its efforts to improve staff wellbeing, and Churchill Square in Brighton also won Bronze for its staff dedicating an annual volunteer day to improve a support facility for the homeless.

In total one Green Champion, six Gold, 12 Silver and 14 Bronze awards were awarded to JLL-managed properties, all of which were picked for their dedication to delivering outstanding environmentally responsible projects within their buildings.

Jordan Jeffery, head of Retail Management for Property & Asset Management at JLL commented: “We are thrilled by the number of Green Apples won this year, once again highlighting the dedication to sustainability from our retail teams. We are encouraged by the greater focus being placed on adding value back to society through our support for community activities at the properties we manage.”

Andries van der Walt, head of Sustainability for Property & Asset Management at JLL said: "JLL welcomes this opportunity to celebrate our sustainability success stories, which our teams continue to deliver as a core service to our clients. Securing 33 Green Apple Awards across such a wide spectrum of projects and initiatives is testament to the depth of JLL's commitment to sustainability, the quality of our staff and the innovation that we bring through our approach to property management."
