JLL launches service to help UK clients achieve net zero ambitions

In direct response to increased commitments by investors and occupiers

September 30, 2020

JLL has announced today the launch of its new net zero carbon end to end service. The new offering will be dedicated to helping property investors and occupiers as they transition to become net zero carbon organisations.

There is global consensus that all buildings must be net zero carbon by 2050, meaning they are zero carbon throughout their lifecycle including development, refurbishment and operation.

In the last year, an increasing number of property owners and occupiers have made bold net zero carbon commitments which requires a step change in actions to reduce carbon in buildings. JLL’s new service will assist clients in achieving these goals by advising them at every stage of the property lifecycle.

JLL will combine its sustainability and real estate expertise to work with clients at all stages of the journey to net zero carbon, advising those that have already set their targets and those that are about to.

The new service will help its clients to:

  • Set a net zero carbon strategy to understand the steps organisations need to take to respond to investor and market pressures;
  • Transition a property portfolio to net zero carbon to ensure it remains attractive, to prevent its devaluation, to generate rental premiums and to reduce voids;
  • Assess, monitor and disclose a building or portfolio’s performance to identify where carbon and cost savings can be made.

Emma Hoskyn, UK head of sustainable client solutions at JLL, said: “Our dedicated end to end service for net zero carbon has been launched in direct response to the increasing demand for advice and support that our clients need, whatever stage of the net zero carbon journey they are at. Organisations who are at the forefront of delivering this transition - those who understand the opportunities, risks, costs and value drivers across their portfolios - will be the ones who ensure the future success of their business.”

In September 2019, JLL was the first property adviser in the UK to make the commitment to operating at net zero carbon by 2030 and has recently become a global signature to the World Green Building Council Net Zero Carbon Building Commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions across all JLL-occupied buildings by 2030. JLL is also a partner of the UK Green Building Council Advancing Net Zero programme and was a lead contributor to their latest research into the cost to achieve net zero carbon new builds.
