JLL gives life to Future4Care, Europe’s largest start-up accelerator dedicated to biotech and e-health
Innovative workspace design to drive a revolution in European healthcare
[JUNE 28, 2022] – An inspirational new flagship building for European healthcare innovation has been delivered by JLL in Paris for Future4Care, Europe’s largest start-up accelerator for biotech and e-health. JLL led the sourcing, redevelopment and fit-out of the 6400 sqm site, designed to promote and facilitate creative collaboration between healthcare start-ups and established industry players.
Created jointly by Sanofi, CapGemini, Generali and Orange, Future4Care’s aim is to accelerate the development of European e-health solutions by creating an eco-system of medical, scientific and technology organisations that will support and nuture more than 150 health related start-ups by 2025 and get them to market.
Shortcomings in Europe’s healthcare infrastructure highlighted by the global pandemic, including a lack of agility and resilience in its supply and production chains, can now be addressed through the incubation of innovative start-ups and market entrants to future proof the sector and protect public health.
JLL was tasked with sourcing an atypical non-office site – an original ‘third place’ - befitting the innovative ambitions of this collective network. Location was key; the site needed to be well served by transport and amenities and be near to industry leaders in science, technology and medicine.
JLL identified a space undergoing renovation in the Paris BioPark – a vibrant new complex in the heart of city designed to promote and develop creativity. The 6400 sqm site – spread over five levels, with 500sqm of outdoor terraces - was reclassified in ERP and transformed into a state-of-art flagship building that can accommodate a public workforce of 199 people (and a total capacity of 650 people).
Acting as AMO, and working with project architect YAD Space, JLL’s Workplace & Design team led and project managed the fit-out in accordance with Future4Care’s objectives: to create spaces attractive to start-ups and conducive to innovation; promote the creation of an eco-system between start-ups and large groups; and reflect the values of the Future4Care brand
The outcome was a fully flexible, accessible space that provides:
- A large dynamic event space and simulation rooms, to allow start-ups to pitch their projects to investors and buyers.
- Digital training and one-to-one support rooms for entrepreneurs.
- Modular meetings rooms that incorporate laboratories and state-of-the-art audiovisual systems to facilitate networking and remote collaboration.
- Flexible working areas that can be reconfigured with mobile furniture for co-working.
- Social and well-being areas including furnished terraces and a cafe/bar.
- Original artworks by Elsa Martino to inspire and give personality and character to the space.
Nicolas Stamenkovic, Project Director at JLL Work Dynamics (EMEA) explained:
“The Future4Care premises are truly extraordinary and showcase how disruptive spaces can promote innovation. We’re very proud to have supported Sanofi and the other co-founders in this exceptional project, both in its ambition and its implementation – especially as the search for premises began in Spring 2020 (in full Covid confinement) and a tight inner Paris real estate market.”
Philippe Michel, Director of Operations at Future4Care added:
“The JLL teams supported us throughout the creation of Future4Care. They were able to perfectly integrate all of our needs and master the challenges of both finding premises and fitting out the spaces. We are very proud to have given birth to this incubator to accelerate progress in e-health in Europe.”
