JLL advises on the disposal of Scotland’s largest transmission connected battery to Zenobe
JLL Energy & Infrastructure Advisory team has advised on the successful sale of consented 50MW BESS development to Zenobe
LONDON, 7 June 2021 – Once constructed, the 50MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will be connected to the transmission network at Wishaw GSP, 17 miles East of Glasgow. The Wishaw facility will be one of the largest in the country and the first to help alleviate constraint directly from the transmission network, protecting grid infrastructure and unlocking greater flow of renewable power from Scotland to England.
JLL acted as lead advisor on the sale and following a competitive bidding process, the development was sold to leading energy storage operator Zenobe. This sale is the latest in a series of successful BESS disposals run by JLL, including sale of Gigabox Development’s 100MW portfolio to Eel Power and Foresight.
Peter Sermon, Senior Director, Energy & Infrastructure Advisory, EMEA, JLL, said: “The Wishaw site is a very attractive and unique BESS asset given its profile and location and the team at Zenobe were quick to identify and value these attributes.
This transaction continues JLL’s run of successful BESS disposals in 2021 as we see the GB BESS market grow from strength to strength. The JLL Energy & Infrastructure team has now advised on over 2GW of BESS projects, cementing our position as market leading financial advisors in the battery storage sector.”
James Basden, Co-Founder and Director of Zenobe, said: “We are thrilled to be launching this truly pioneering project to help Scotland become a world leader in renewable energy production and reach their ambitious climate change targets.
“By stabilising the grid, batteries like this will play a vital role in accelerating the uptake of renewables across the country. We were very pleased to work with JLL to acquire rights to the site and look forward to starting the build.”
