JLL appoints Chris Walters as head of life sciences
Director Chris Walters promoted to lead the growing life sciences team
JLL has announced the appointment of director Chris Walters as head of its life sciences team.
Chris will take over from Dr Glenn Crocker, who has led the business for the last 2.5 years and will assume the role of senior consultant and continue to work with the team.
Chris, who has been with JLL over 10-years’, joined the life sciences team as its investor and developer lead when it was formed in 2019 to build on the firm’s existing strengths and in recognition of the sector becoming a central pillar to UK economic growth. He has played a key role in the development of the life science team at JLL in the UK, bringing together likeminded colleagues across the business to give a clear offer to JLL’s clients.
Chris will continue to strengthen the team in this rapidly expanding market. The global pandemic has already accentuated many of the growth trends and in 2020 equity investment in UK life science companies reached a record £2.8 billion, further driving occupational demand and investor appetite in the sector. In parallel the industry is expanding across Europe with the UK at the forefront of this growth, with established clusters and hubs, for example the ‘Golden Triangle’ of London, Oxford and Cambridge, together employing over 250,000 scientists and professionals.
JLL’s life sciences team comprises eight fully dedicated real estate professionals and provides advice to clients across the full spectrum of pharma and biotech companies, investors and developers, universities, and local authorities.
Chris’s promotion follows the recent appointment of Jenny Gardner who joined JLL to lead on project and development services for life sciences to advise clients on the viability and delivery of new projects. Jenny brings 10 years’ experience with leading life sciences developer, Alexandria Real Estate.
Chris Walters, head of life sciences at JLL, said: “The future outlook for the industry is full of opportunity. The continued growth of life science companies is feeding through into unprecedented demand for specialist real estate facilities, whilst institutional investors are now building global strategies to gain exposure to the sector. This growth story is incredibly motivating and I look forward to working with Glenn and the team in continuing our delivery of best in class advice and solutions for our clients across this exciting sector.”
Dr Glenn Crocker, senior consultant at JLL, commented: “It has been a privilege to work with such an exceptional team at JLL and with some fantastic clients on highly significant projects. I look forward to continuing to provide support and advice and seeing Chris take JLL’s life sciences offering from strength to strength.”
