Davos spotlights collaborative action to tackle climate change

There is something in the air this week at Davos, a determination to mark the 50th anniversary of the World Economic Forum with meaningful and lasting collective action.

January 20, 2020

The theme for this year’s annual meeting is ‘Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World’ and there is a strong sense that the majority of business, academic and political leaders gathered here have got the message.  The program for the week is packed with sessions on advancing diversity and inclusion, creating broader opportunity across society, and addressing climate change.

JLL is actively engaged with this agenda.  Earlier today, again partnering with Harvard Business Review, we hosted our annual Davos panel discussion focused on the Future of Work.  Our panel – featuring PwC’s Carol Stubbings, BCG’s Allison Bailey and JLL’s Neil Murray, moderated by HBR’s Adi Ignatius – examined the real value of prioritising human experience in the workplace, and debated the vital importance of a clear organisational purpose in attracting and retaining people of all working ages, not least those from Generation Z.

This afternoon, JLL was unveiled as one of four founding partners in the launch of Bloomberg Green, a major multi-platform global initiative focused on climate change news, analysis and solutions.  We are involved because we believe it is essential for the business community to pool knowledge, resources and best practices to help address the management and mitigation of climate damaging emissions.  The importance of the challenge demands that leading businesses prioritize collaboration over competition.  JLL will be playing a full and energetic part, consistent with our core commitment to shaping the future of real estate for a better world.

Davos 2020 is as busy as ever, the mood around the economic outlook is surprisingly positive.  Stay tuned for more blogs from JLL’s delegation as the week continues.
