Wellness-orientated workplace that delights employees

Challenge

Reckitt, a world leader in hygiene, health and nutrition brands, appointed JLL to design the refurbishment of their UK head office in Slough. The scope consisted of the main office building set over four floors arranged around a central atrium, which later expanded to include the design of an outdoor meeting facility and the refurbishment of their multi-storey car park.

Solution

Working alongside the Reckitt team, we led the team of MEP, catering, acoustician, structural engineers, IT /AV, WELL and graphic & branding consultants to create a space that captures Reckitt’s purpose to protect, heal and nurture, creating an exciting, dynamic and wellness-orientated environment for their employees.

We reimagined the atrium as the heart of the building with a new coffee bar, tiered seating feature, and new suspended lighting scheme, which together with planting features has turned the space into a popular social and collaboration hub. The ground floor also provides a gym, wellness suite, restaurant and interlinked meeting suites. Divided into neighbourhoods, the office floors provide electric height-adjustable desks and a range of accessible collaboration spaces.

Outside, we created five garden meeting pods with interlinking decking paths passing around retained mature trees, bridged by pergolas for shade. We also redesigned the multi-storey car park with metal cladding, perforated to create digital woodland imagery across the facades.

The project is on target to obtain WELL Platinum certification and as Employer’s Agent we participated in the tender process for the general contractor and carried out the role of Design and Quality Guardians up to post-completion.
