Life at JLL

Graduate Story: Alice Keogh

About me: I studied BSc Real Estate after achieving Spanish, English and Geography A levels.

My journey to JLL: I applied in my second year of university for the Summer Internship programme. The application process was really simple, and I gained four weeks of experience in the National Investment team. Afterwards, I was invited to an early assessment centre and then offered a place on the graduate scheme.

My day-to-day: My current role is in Commercial Valuation. My team look after multiple portfolios owned by pension funds, insurance companies, investment and wealth managers, and government bodies. I assist in running monthly valuation figures for a number of properties in each portfolio and then meet with the client to discuss our valuations. Properties vary by nature, and my spread includes high street retail, offices, restaurants, industrial and retail warehouses

It’s not all work: I enjoy the sport focussed side of the business and run most Tuesday evenings with the JLL run club. I also like to get involved in events such as the JLL Property Tri and Surveyor Sevens, which are great for fusing competitive rivalry with socialising with colleagues and making new friends in the industry.

Support: The graduate support at JLL is difficult to fault. Many at JLL work closely with the RICS, and therefore have a very current understanding of how to mentor the graduates through the training scheme.

Post Graduate Story: Alex Cousins

Before qualifying as a Surveyor, Alex joined JLL in 2014 as part of its graduate program, which helped him launch his professional career.

Fresh out of university, Alex received a great foundation through the JLL graduate scheme. "Everyone within JLL is always willing to help and offer support," he says.

Alex’s first position in the company was in the Property and Asset Management division. Since then, he has worked in the City Agency, South-East Valuation and High Street Retail Investment and Leasing departments.

In these varied roles, Alex has worked with clients and agents on developing new relationships and seizing opportunities every day. "I have become more involved as time has gone by, helping with some exciting sales and acquisitions," Alex says. "The global business connections that JLL has makes it possible to work on some of the most exciting opportunities in the investment market."

Furthermore, it's not just the size of the firm that impresses Alex, but the people.

"JLL has always had the feel of a small family firm, even though it is one of the biggest property consultancies in the world. Everyone is extremely approachable and encouraging, which I believe is the key driver to the firm's success."
