The Talks 2022 was a TEDx style event that our 2021 Early Careers Committee - Esha Bhasin, Johnny Miller, Isabella Lysaght and Henry Wigzell – designed, conceptualised and introduced to JLL. It provided a platform for our Early Careers Community to share innovative ideas with our senior leadership team on how JLL can deliver against its UK business strategy.

“My talk highlights the importance of strengthening client relationships at a junior level. I propose to start the JLL NextGen Academy which is an annual, all-day event led by JLL and the younger generation for the next generation of clients.”
Our Runner up:
Jared Harvey
Graduate Surveyor, London (Cognate Residential Pathway)
“Whilst we all accept that technology is set to disrupt the way our industry operates, history suggests that large firms such as JLL won’t be the ones who disrupt it. My talk focuses on how JLL can look to defy the odds, through developing technology in a way that leverages the benefits of acting like a PropTech start-up whilst simultaneously exploiting the trust and scale it has built up over 100 years. This rests on 3 pillars: education, communication and integration.”

Nick Going
Graduate Surveyor, London (City Office Agency)
“Being such influential members within the property market we should be educating and organising ourselves and others so we can lead by example here at JLL and on an individual level to best help global issues such as climate change. My talk focuses on how we as individuals can have a much greater impact on the world around us, and that as a collective we need to start viewing how we can tackle ‘overwhelming’ issues such as climate change with a new positive outlook.”

“JLL Spark has invested more than $340 million in proptech startups; companies that will change the structure and function of surveying as we know it. My talk highlighted the impact this will have on the market and how the built environment will adopt technology to shape our future.”
Harriet Hogg

“Climate change is the defining issue of our time. My talk focuses on the challenge of moving the real estate market at the scale and pace required to meet the Paris Agreement, and the collective re-interpretation of ‘trusted advisor’ that I believe this problem necessitates.”
Phoebe Stewart

“With sustainability being material to many investors only to the extent that it affects them financially, it is clear that the issue is not a high priority for many of our clients. Despite this, there is a clear correlation in the real estate industry between lower environmental sustainability and lower asset value. My talk focuses on this issue and raises how it is JLL’s responsibility as a global industry leader to help our clients prioritise sustainability before it is too late.”

“Real estate has long had a reputation for being dominated by those from wealthier backgrounds, with 45% of the industry being made up by those from private/selective schools compared to just 12% of the country that attends these schools nationally. My talk investigates the root cause of this diversity issue and discusses potential solutions to this problem.”
