Building Pride at JLL is an internal resource network run by its employees, for its employees. To celebrate Pride Month this year, we’re showing support for our LGBT+ employees by hearing their stories, to show others in the industry that they’re not alone, and that support is out there. We also hope these stories reach our Allies, who stand by the LGBT+ community not only during Pride Month, but all year round, to continue spreading kindness and create a better and more inclusive world.
During Pride month JLL’s UK Chief Executive and Gender Sponsors share their thoughts on why they support and advocate for Pride and the LGBTQ+ community.

A diverse and inclusive world is a better world – and we all have a role to play in making that a reality. At JLL we are striving to build a progressive and inclusive culture. Celebrating Pride and ensuring that our people are proud to be themselves and speak out against intolerances helps to drive our efforts towards an ever-stronger culture. Pride month is an incredible opportunity to celebrate diversity and promote equality and inclusion. But we must remain mindful that we need to celebrate what makes us different every day of the year – not only in Pride month.
Pride is important to me as I am proud to be gay. There is no place for people who try to make the LGBTQ community feel ashamed of who they are - like I experienced.
It is a celebration but also a reminder to us all that there is still so much more to do to make being LGBTQ+ not an issue in the workplace.
The progress real estate made in the last decade was unimaginable in 2010. Let’s hope that momentum of change can be regained.
As a staunch ally I accepted the role to sit on JLL’s own building pride network more than 5 years ago. Our industry has made some great strides in the past few years but it is clear we can still do more and when I see evidence of bias creeping in, it spurs me to call people out and continue to do more.
As an employer it is absolutely essential we are open to applications from all walks of life in order that we can get the best people for each individual role. The need to continue to help educate and inform others within our profession continues. Pride celebrates that need, it also provides a reference point in the year, when we can all reflect on what we can do better to encourage diversity and inclusion across our respective businesses.
Every one of us has a responsibility to create a secure, respectful and inclusive environment in which colleagues of all sexual orientations and gender identities can thrive. Pride Month gives us the chance to restate our commitment to strive for that, every day. The most important aspect of working together is that we all feel we can be our authentic self at JLL. Every colleague deserves to feel a genuine sense of belonging and work in a culture where they can flourish. I believe true success for our business can only come through inclusion.
Diversity and inclusion are a core part of our business practice – celebrating what makes us unique, whether that’s industry experience, gender, race or sexual orientation. We are accountable as a business to ensure that our people feel that their voice is valued and for JLL’s LGBTQ+ community, Pride is an important moment to celebrate and feel that they are in a place that they belong. Our gender and ethnicity targets are vital to maintain momentum and benchmark the progress being made towards being the inclusive business that we strive to be.
