What is the Real Estate Environmental Benchmark?

The Real Estate Environmental Benchmark is a joint initiative between the Better Buildings Partnership and JLL. It is a publicly available, asset specific, operational benchmark of environmental performance for commercial property in the UK.

The Real Estate Environmental Benchmark provides energy, CO2, water and waste performance benchmarks for shopping centres, retail / leisure parks and offices. These are based on real consumption data of some of the UK’s largest commercial property owners, updated annually.

Why is it useful?

This publically available benchmark provides property owners, occupiers and managers with a means to compare the performance of their own buildings in terms of Energy, Water and Waste.

It can be used to understand where cost savings can be made, inform meaningful target setting and demonstrate good environmental management.

How are the benchmarks calculated?

A detailed methodology of how the benchmarks are calculated can be found here.

Who is involved?

Participation in the REEB is open to all parties involved in commercial property or clients of JLL. Currently all participants are those who are members of the Better Buildings Partnership or clients of JLL Sustainability Services. View current participants here.

How do you get involved?

The latest benchmarks  are freely available to use and provide a reference against which you can compare the performance of your building and or portfolio. Participants that supply data also receive tailored reports specific to their portfolios. Find out more about how to participate here.
