The Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) for England and Wales makes it unlawful for properties with F or G Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) to be let from April 2018, without implementing cost-effective energy efficiency improvements or fulfilling an exemption criterion. MEES does not apply in Scotland where the relevant legislation is Section 63 of the Climate Change Scotland Act.
