New Technology Academy for Exeter

Exeter, 12th July 2012 - Jones Lang LaSalle’s Exeter and Bristol offices have been appointed by Exeter College to undertake the feasibility, site purchase, planning and construction of a new Technology Academy in Exeter.  This project follows ongoing work undertaken by Jones Lang LaSalle with the College.

Jones Lang LaSalle’s Bristol based project management team led the feasibility report working closely with the planning team and the development agency team in Exeter to identify suitable locations in Exeter. The viability review took into account land and development costs, planning risks and opportunities, access and public transport and compatibility with Exeter College’s vision for the development of new facilities away from its central Exeter campus.

Once the College Governors and senior management team had reviewed the final feasibility report, the project management and planning teams immediately progressed with managing the design, planning and construction of the new Technology Centre which is located near the Met Office, providing 3,275 sq m of workshops and laboratories for the Engineering, Automotive and Aerospace Faculty.

The centre will provide facilities for over 300 students, combining the Engineering and Motor Vehicle faculties into one purpose built building and providing modern engineering facilities for the training of 16-19 year olds in close partnership with local employers.

Jones Lang LaSalle worked hard with the design team to ensure the building provided value for money and met the Colleges requirements which include a BREEAM very good rating. The construction costs for the building are approximately £1,300/sq m.

The centre is planned for completion in July 2012 ready for the start on the new September 2012 Academic year.
