Build the Ark project going from strength to strength

The Build the Ark project for Noah's Ark Children's Hospice in Barnet, which will be the first for North and Central London, is going from strength to strength.

The project, which has received growing support from big property players including JLLPears PropertySquire & PartnersRPSSellar Property GroupKUTRamboll, HOK and Gensler, has just appointed 8build as the main contractor on the scheme.

The hospice will be built on a 7.5 acre nature reserve near Barnet town centre and provide space for hundreds of children and their families to receive expert end of life care, recess support, important therapies and group and play activities for children.

Ashley Perry, senior project manager at JLL UK, said: "It is incredible to see the amount of support the construction industry has been providing to make this valuable build project a reality by 2019. The construction and property players involved have been providing services either pro bono or at a discounted rate for the last 18 months to help drive costs down, but there is of course more work to be done."

Peter Jeffery, director in planning, development & heritage at JLL UK, commented: "Securing approval for the Noah's Ark Children's Hospice was without doubt the most satisfying permission of my entire career. It has been a great experience to work alongside colleagues and other property professionals to provide services to such a fantastic charity. It is even more special to me personally, as the Hospice will be built in my home town of Barnet and within a minute walk of my childhood home. I really look forward to seeing the building delivered and the new facility becoming embedded within the local community."

Chris Ireland, JLL UK CEO, added: "I am very proud of JLL's planners and project managers who have helped get this project off of the ground. I call on the rest of construction industry to offer their specialist skills and expertise for this very worthy cause."

JLL has been acting as project managers since 2015 successfully coordinating the project's design and planning process. JLL's planning, development and heritage team achieved build consent in early 2017. JLL has been working closely with the wider fundraising teams to raise awareness of the project in the industry.
