Lucy Oldham is a director in our Norwich office and is actively involved in our Women’s Network set up to support and empower under-represented groups within JLL.
Who are you and what's your role?
I am the Lead Director for Retail in our Norwich office from which we manage the day to day operations of shopping centres, retail and leisure parks and high street shops across the UK on behalf of our clients.
Women's Network was created to support, mentor and provide role models for JLL women across all teams and role. I am member of the
UK Steering Committee and am keen to ensure that the ambitions and achievements of our women are embedded and communicated across our offices.
What do you like about working in Norwich?
For a number of years I used to split my time between London and Norwich but I now spend the majority of my working life in Austin House. Norwich is full of amazing people and it is a fabulous city to work in. It's our largest UK office outside of London with over 300 staff of which 65% are female.
What impresses you most about your JLL colleagues?
My female colleagues are ambitious. They are keen to be recognised for their achievements and contributions to our business not their gender. I trained as a surveyor back in a time where the 'glass ceiling' was talked about and the menial jobs were given to the female graduates, and it wasn't THAT long ago. Things are changing and JLL's culture is one that supports and encourages women and inspires everyone to play a positive part in changing the face of property as a whole.
Are you involved in any special projects, campaigns or activities at present?
I am working on with clients at the moment on a number of interesting projects including a cinema development, a scheme refresh and the implementation of two innovative sustainability initiatives. Aside from these, my focus for 2017 is to ensure the aims and aspirations of the Women's Network and all of JLL's Diversity & Inclusion groups are coordinated across all of our UK offices.
I am also very excited that
JLL is supporting Norwich Pride.
Supporting the LGBT community and JLL's commitment for a more diversified property industry is something I am passionate about. I look forward to seeing as many people from across the firm join us on Saturday 29 July.
What's your favourite building?Musee de I'Orangerie, Paris. Originally built in 1852 to shelter the orange trees of the garden of the Tuileries it is now the permanent home of 8 Water Lily murals by Monet. The murals are displayed under direct defused light as was originally intended by Monet and it is an incredibly peaceful place.
Are you active on social media? If so, which channels do you use?I love social media. Being connected to people wherever they are and being able to find out what is happening in the world whilst on the move is imperative for me. We live in such a fast paced, news hungry world social media helps me to connect and communicate.
