New go karting track set to open in Bristol

JLL agrees deal that will see new track opening near Fishponds

Bristol, 6 February 2016 – Bristol is to be home to one of the largest indoor go karting tracks in the UK following a deal brokered by property consultancy JLL.

The new track will be located in Speedwell, between Greenbank and Fishponds, and will include more than 800m of exhilarating bends, straights, chicanes and ramps.

It will also feature brand new Sodi GT5 Go-Karts, each boasting 270cc Honda engines, that can go up to speeds of 45 mph.

The new facility will be operated by Absolutely Leisure, which already operates tracks in Maidenhead and Basingstoke. The organisation specialises in providing family-orientated leisure and entertainment pursuits while supplying subsidised or free activities to local groups for disabled people.

The new facility will be on Chapel Lane in a 47,000 sq ft industrial facility that is owned by the Rajani Family, who also owns Rajani Superstore, which is around the corner from the site.

Ross Wigley, surveyor at JLL in Bristol, which marketed the building, said: “This is really exciting news for Bristol. This will be the first go-karting facility near the city centre, and it will provide an economic boost, particularly for this part of east Bristol. The building is ideal for an entertainment venue like this and we look forward to seeing it get a new lease of life in 2017.”

As well as advising on the deal, JLL’s planning team has also achieved a change of use for the building from B2 Use (Industrial) and B8 (Storage and Distribution) to a go-kart track acting on behalf of Absolutely Leisure.

Greg Sinclair, managing director of Absolutely Leisure, said: “We are really excited that Bristol is going to be home to Absolutely Leisure’s third karting track. Bristol is a vibrant city offering world-class attractions and has become a popular leisure destination. Our new track will deliver an experience not to be missed.

“We chose to open at this site in Speedwell because of its proximity to the town centre and the excellent transport links.

“Our focus is to build the most exciting tracks in the UK. Bristol will see more of a social element with a bar area for visitors to relax in after races or spectate from, which we believe will offer our guests a more complete experience.”

The new track will be open to the public on 11 February 2017.

Absolutely Leisure is a Slough-based company, which operates a host of entertainment and leisure facilities across the UK, including go-karting, 10 pin bowling, ice skating, laser combat and fitness centres.
