Inaugural Industrial Agents Society Conference

12th December 2016 - The Industrial Agents Society (IAS), now celebrating its fortieth anniversary, held its inaugural conference last week at Twickenham Rugby Stadium. Commenting on the event, Tim Clement, the outgoing chairman of the IAS and director in JLL’s Industrial and Logistics​ team, said: “Our first conference brought together agents, investors, occupiers and developers from across the industrial and logistics community to discuss the factors which will have implications on the market and give advice on how to how to continue to evolve the sector.”

Keynote conference speakers included, Andy Street, former managing director of John Lewis and chair of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership who gave an insight into the Midlands engine & the Northern powerhouse. Lord Digby Jones, former director general of the CBI and minister of state for UK trade and investment discussed the effects of digitalisation, changing demographics and Brexit on the business environment. Journalist Andrew Marr discussed the political landscape post-Brexit. Jon Sleeman, director EMEA & UK Industrial and Logistics Research at JLL sat on a panel alongside peers and examined the “Big Industrial Debate.” Lastly the future of industrial land supply in the UK was debated by members of the British Property Federation Industrial Committee.

Tim Clement concluded: “The IAS conference was a fitting occasion for me to hand over the IAS chairmanship to Ben Wiley of Strutt and Parker. As my last event prior to retiring from the IAS the quality of the event, the outstanding speakers and the number of attendees has made me very proud to have been a part of it and I look forward to further IAS conferences in the future.”
