JLL advises on £50 million hotel redevelopment opportunity in Plymouth

​7th November 2016 - The Exeter office of JLL’s Hotel & Hospitality Group has advised Plymouth City Council on the marketing of a hotel redevelopment opportunity in a prime city location.

Development specialists Henley Real Estate have been selected as the preferred bidders to develop a 0.9 hectares site overlooking the Hoe with views across The Sound. The site was purchased by Plymouth City Council in 2015 and the council instructed JLL to market the property following the demolition of a derelict hotel that had previously been located on the site.

The boutique hotel will comprise a luxury 60-bedroom boutique hotel, with state-of-the art conference facilities, a full gym and spa and a panoramic penthouse with a fine-dining restaurant and will be named 1620 in commemoration of the sailing of The Mayflower. The hotel is planned to be opened in 2019

The development, which will also include a separate tower comprising 80 bespoke apartments and will also follow the 1620 branding.

Plymouth City Council leader Ian Bowyer, commented “To have acquired the site, demolished an eye sore building and attract a new exciting development in less than 12 months just shows what can be done with a bit of drive and courage.

“We took a bold and proactive approach and it is paying off. Not only will this development deliver more high quality hotel rooms in time for Mayflower 400, it helps the city up its game as a year-round destination.”
