Failure to invest in IT putting hoteliers on back foot says Avenue9

13 October 2016 - A survey of hoteliers undertaken by Avenue9, part of the JLL Group, has highlighted that a lack of investment in IT Systems & Technology is holding hotels back from attracting new guests.

Avenue9, which provides IT Consultancy Services specifically for the leisure and hospitality sector, has undertaken research on inefficiencies across hotel departments and uncovered what the main reasons are behind these.

  • 45% of issues are related to lack of strategy and focus on a data strategy
  • 40% of issues are related to systems installation and lack of IT investment
  • 15% of issues are related to the correct training of the systems that are installed

The findings also demonstrate that a failure to invest in the right systems & strategies is restricting businesses in the acquisition of new guests compared to Online Travel Agencies (OTA’s).

Kevin Edwards, MD of Avenue9, commented: “The survey highlights that there is a fundamental data disconnect between hotel departments and a lack of ownership of data strategy within businesses across the hotel sector. This is directly impacting on the guest experience and the ability for hotels to attract new customers.

“The good news is that there is a clear opportunity to improve the guest experience and attract new customers with some simple investment in IT. At a time when the hotel industry is seeing immense change and disruption it is vitally important that hotels put themselves in the best position to optimise their business and attract new guests.”
