Following years of negligible increases, JLL believes nursing care providers will warmly welcome today's announcement on the increase in NHS-funded care from £112 to £156 per week. This increase will partially offset the impact of the National Living Wage and thereby improve the sustainability of social care services at a time of unprecedented financial pressure.
Eamonn Meadows, Associate Director in JLL's Healthcare team, commented "With ever increasing levels of demand for nursing care services, this long-awaited increase in NHS funded care to nursing homes will help to improve the viability of the publicly funded social care model".
Philip Hall, Chairman of JLL's Healthcare team added, "Acute NHS Trusts up and down the land face bed blocking and patient discharge problems. To solve these problems it is first necessary to enable patients to be discharged safely into quality nursing environments outside of hospital. This fee increase is no magic bullet. But it is a recognition of the immense financial pressures faced by nursing homes. And it will be helpful in starting to unblock the system, enabling the NHS to get on with its job of providing first class acute care."
