Ian King tackles the biggest business and economics stories live from the Gherkin. Monday to Thursday at 6.30pm on Sky News.
Adam Challis Head of Residential research at JLL speaks to Ian King Live on Monday 1st February discussing Governments latest housing initiative – Help to Buy London. Here he discusses whether Government is focused on the real issue and the impact that this policy is likely to have on homeownership in London.
Adam comments: “Help to buy had an important role in helping the housebuilding industry coming out of the downturn. However an expansion of Government support for increasingly marginal first time buyers exposes them to unnecessary risk and represents a distraction from the core policy requirements of supporting those most in need. Government priorities need to focus on expanding housing supply in the private rental and affordable sectors.
It [Help to Buy] is not a bad thing in itself but creates distractions from core priorities in a normal functioning market.”
