Brookgate attracts leading corporates to CB1 Cambridge, advised by JLL's South East Office Agency team

Deloitte, Thales Group and Carter Jonas sign up at landmark building One The Square

London, 6 November 2015 - Mixed-use development specialist Brookgate has announced that leading professional services firm Deloitte, multinational electronic systems company Thales Group and property consultancy Carter Jonas are all taking office space at CB1, the vibrant new city quarter being developed around Cambridge station.

  • Carter Jonas has secured 6,448 sq ft of space on the ground floor
  • Deloitte will occupy 19,000 sq ft of space on the first floor
  • Thales will take 27,600 sq ft of space on the second floor

All three occupiers have signed a 10-year lease.  As a result of the deals, and retail units under offer, One The Square, one of the largest speculative developments in Cambridge, is now approaching 50% pre-let, well ahead of completion in November 2016.

Benefitting from large open floorplates, One The Square will deliver over 129,000 sq ft state-of-the-art Grade A office and some 13,000 sq ft retail space and is expected to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating for sustainability.  At ground level, a mix of shops, cafes and restaurants will front onto Station Square, a new public space and focal point for the city's new business district.

Sven Töpel, Chief Executive of Brookgate, said: "It is fantastic to see such high level of demand for space at One The Square and is testament to the quality of space that is being delivered.  Brookgate is pleased to be meeting the workspace requirements of these world-class firms and helping Cambridge to strengthen its competitive status as a key UK business and innovation hub."

Mark Granger, Chief Executive, Carter Jonas, said: "With this new, state-of-the-art office space, we will ensure that we can continue to offer the best advice to our clients, from the most prime location in the City. Cambridge is an integral part of our UK network, where we provide a complete range of client services across the commercial, planning, residential and rural sectors. Furthermore, this move will provide us with the perfect office from which to grow our business, and at the same time will strengthen our commitment to the Eastern region with its diverse occupier and business landscape."

Paul Schofield, Office Senior Partner of Deloitte in Cambridge, said: "With its world-class university, high tech cluster and status as a significant centre for learning and innovation, Cambridge has long been an important business location for Deloitte.  Our new offices at One The Square will not only help us to continue to provide a broad range of advisory services to the most innovative, influential and fast growing companies in the region, the location will also help us as we seek to attract the top talent to support our growth strategy."

Nigel Bowdery, Managing Director, Thales e-Security EMEA, said: "The move to our new offices at One The Square highlights our commitment to invest and grow our talented teams of people based in Cambridge, from software, systems and security engineers to sales and marketing, who help us protect the world's digital assets. The location has excellent amenities and connectivity, with the very best the city has to offer right on the doorstep."

CB1 is set to provide a significant boost to Cambridge's economy by creating a thriving gateway to the city and attracting businesses, residents and visitors to the area.  CB1 is already home to a growing cluster of global and high growth companies including Microsoft and Mott MacDonald.  A total of 570,000 sq ft of high quality office space is being delivered by the scheme.

The mixed-use project will also provide an impressive new gateway to the city with a new transport interchange and concourse at Station Square right outside Cambridge Station, a multi-storey cycle park, bus stops and direct access to the city's Park and Ride facilities.

JLL advised Brookgate on all three transactions and also acted for Thales Group.
