Siemens Wind Power Onshore Opens First Scotland Hub

Edinburgh, 23 October 2013 - Siemens, the leading supplier of turbines and service to the UK's onshore and offshore wind market, is to expand its operations in Scotland by establishing a new onshore projects and construction hub in Livingston.

The company has taken a lease on a 9,621 sq ft end terrace unit at 3 Rennie Square in Brucefield Industrial Park, in a deal secured by Jones Lang LaSalle.

Providing the business with a great strategic position midway between Edinburgh and Glasgow, the unit has been extensively upgraded and fitted to the company’s own bespoke requirements before becoming operational for the GB and Ireland onshore wind power business at the official opening of the hub on Tuesday 22nd October 2013. The building was officially opened by Fergus Ewing MSP, Scottish Minister for Energy Enterprise and Tourism.
Siemens, which already employs 600 people in Scotland in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Leith, Cumbernauld and Wishaw, is actively recruiting to fill positions for the new base, which will have capacity for up to 30 employees.

Brucefield Industrial Park provides modern industrial accommodation within a secure, managed environment conveniently located on the A71, to the south of Livingston town centre. It offers units ranging from 3,000 – 30,000 sq ft with associated yardage and parking. Other users in the park include Bank of Scotland, Pregis, Speedy Services and IBM.
Grant Walker, Managing Director, Siemens Onshore Wind Power GB&I, commented: “This is a crucial strategic step for Siemens Onshore Wind, consolidating our commitment to Scotland as a key market and ensuring we meet our obligations to employment and the economy in the United Kingdom.
“The new facility will enable Siemens to meet its customer needs more effectively. It also confirms our commitment to supporting Scotland’s low carbon vision, supporting continued investment and the economies critical for the success of onshore wind.”
Jones Lang La Salle acted on behalf of Siemens Wind Power and JA Pollock acted for the Landlord, F & C Reit.

Kirsty Palmer, Associate Director for Jones Lang LaSalle, commented: “Brucefield Industrial Park sits in an accessible location for our clients’ operations team and is an ideal fit for Siemens Wind Power’s on-going requirements.”
