JLL backs £1bn City Region bid for Edinburgh and south-east Scotland

Edinburgh 7th September 2015

JLL is one of almost 100 businesses giving their backing a bid to secure £1bn of funding for Edinburgh and the south east of Scotland.

Other businesses include BT, Edinburgh International Conference Centre and Apex Hotels, with Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, Marketing Edinburgh and the universities and colleges in the region also giving their support to the deal.

The six councils behind the bid claim will now be submitted to the UK and Scottish governments. If the bid is successful, they hope to build new housing, generate jobs and improve connectivity through transport links and the internet. They believe it could also generate an additional £3.2bn worth of private sector investment.

Alasdair Humphery, Lead Director for property consultant JLL in Scotland said: "The City Region bid is a positive initiative for Edinburgh and the south east of Scotland. The proposals have the potential to create jobs, regenerate industrial sites, support new housing, as well as improving transport infrastructure and we whole-heartedly support the bid."

Andrew Burns, the leader of the City of Edinburgh Council, added: " He added: "Our ambition is to achieve a step change in economic performance for the economies of the region, Scotland and the UK and we are delighted that to date almost 100 businesses have registered their support."
