One of Bristol’s best-known buildings up for sale for over £6million

Leading property consultancy JLL instructed to sell Brunel House

BRISTOL, July 9, 2015 - The Bristol office of leading property consultancy JLL has been instructed to sell one of Bristol’s best-known buildings, Brunel House in St George’s Road, off Park Street.
The building was originally designed in the mid-nineteenth century by Isambard Kingdom Brunel as a hotel for travellers who were en route to America having journeyed from London on the Great Western Railway. They would then embark on the SS Great Britain to continue their trip. Since then, the building has had a variety of uses.

Brunel HouseIt was redeveloped behind the listed façade in the early 1980s and, since then, has been occupied by Bristol City Council’s planning department.

The City Council plans to move all of the functions currently in Brunel House to other main offices once the refurbishment of City Hall is completed next year.

Zoe Sharpe of JLL, who is handling the sale of the building, said: “Due to its flexible design in a very attractive setting and location, the building lends itself to a variety of possible future uses including hotel and residential, as well as offices.”

The vendors are seeking bids in excess of £6million for the property.
