JLL wins appeal for Wigan metal recycling facility

Decision marks third successful appeal for European Metal Recycling Group in 14 months

Manchester, 9th April – The planning and development team at property consultant JLL has secured planning permission on appeal for a metal recycling facility in Ince, Wigan on behalf of European Metal Recycling Limited (EMR).

The successful appeal paves the way for an investment of £2.5 million in the local area and will create 20 new jobs.

EMR submitted its application in 2013 for the proposed construction of the facility, after acquiring the brownfield employment site in 2012. JLL successfully argued for the grant of planning permission after the application was refused by Wigan Council, contrary to a recommendation for approval by officers.

This is the third permission which JLL has secured for EMR at appeal in 14 months, following successes in Cornwall and Halton.
Frazer Sandwith, Associate Director - planning and development at JLL, said: “The planning successes across these sites were fully justified and will contribute to investment and job creation in the local areas. The metals sector continues to be one of the UK’s largest in the manufacturing industry – employing more people than the motor and aerospace industries combined – and has significant potential for export growth.”
