Historic Former University Campus in Glasgow Goes on the Market

31 acre residential development opportunity in prime West End location


David Stow building.jpgGLASGOW, 16 March 2015 – Glasgow’s historic Jordanhill Campus has gone on sale, in what is the largest and most eagerly anticipated development opportunity in Scotland this year.

Set in a predominantly residential area in the heart of the city’s affluent West End, the 31 acre site supports the development of circa 364 residential units.

It is being brought to the market by JLL on behalf of the University of Strathclyde.

The site benefits from a Minded to Grant Planning Permission in Principle for residential development.

A Campus Plan has been prepared, and sets out an indicative development framework supporting a development of approximately 364 residential units, which could be delivered over 12 development plots.

The University has worked closely with both Historic Scotland and Glasgow City Council on the project.

The jewel in Jordanhill’s crown is the Category B-listed David Stow Building, a prominent figure in the Glasgow skyline.

It is anticipated that the three-storey building, which was completed in 1922, could be converted into high quality residential apartments which would benefit from impressive views over the city. An indicative scheme has been prepared to support a conversion into circa 55 and 71 apartments.

Two further buildings – Graham House and Douglas House – may merit retention with scope to convert into circa 23 apartments each.

The remainder of the site is occupied by 1960s buildings, hard standing and landscaping, with the recommendation that these be demolished to allow for new build residential.
The West End is regarded as Glasgow’s main cultural hub and is home to Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Kelvingrove Park, The Botanic Gardens as well as music venues The Hydro and the SECC.

Given the number of highly-regarded schools in the area, demand for family accommodation is high.

The state-of-the-art Scotstoun Sports Campus is within close walking distance. Scotstoun Stadium – home of Glasgow Warriors rugby club and the National Badminton Academy – is within the sports campus.

The site also benefits from excellent road network links, with Great Western Road, the Clydeside Expressway, Clyde Tunnel and the M8 motorway all close by.

Two train stations – Jordanhill and Anniesland – are within walking distance. Both provide direct links with Glasgow Central station and Glasgow Queen Street station with a journey time of around 10 minutes.

There are a wide variety of amenities in the local area, including supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants.
