JLL research reveals new office fit-out trends for legal sector

Research from JLL highlights the issues that law firms will face over the next three years.

London, 4th December 2014 - Research from JLL highlights the issues that law firms will face over the next three years. JLL’s Global Law Firm Perspective reveals that with greater scrutiny over the cost of real estate in high-cost locations, office design and fit-out is increasingly under the spotlight.

Commenting on the research, Kane Wagstaff, JLL’s head of UK Cost Management, said: “Faced with increasing competition and margin pressure, Legal firms are now recognising the business advantage that can be unlocked by rationalising and prioritising their office design and fit out expenditure. The sector has traditionally favoured in-efficient cellular working environments, typically driven by the need to guarantee privacy. Whilst not universal, many UK-based firms have demonstrated mounting enthusiasm for more efficient open plan office space that supports day to day business activity but enables spend to be prioritised towards client facing areas and new technology that can help enhance business productivity.”

“Ultimately, decisions on design and expenditure vary by business practice and firm culture; however, many international law firms acquiring, designing and fitting out space in London have begun to follow suit spurred on by the risk that they may fall behind the competition.”
