JLL's head of Rating comments on today's unexpected announcement from the Department for Local Government & Communities

UK government decides to defer and combine the reform of the business rates appeals process

London, 31st July 2014 – Commenting on today's unexpected announcement from the Department for Local Government & Communities to defer the reform of the business rates appeal process in to the broader review of business rates administration, Tim Beattie, head of Rating, JLL said: "We warmly welcome the government's decision so that it is aligned with the broader review of business rates administration which is due to take effect after the next revaluation in 2017."

"It is clear from the sudden announcement that appeared from the Department for Local Government & Communities earlier today that the government has listened carefully to the respondents of both recent consultations on the appeal system and wider administrative reform who urged them to consider both sets of reform together following the next revaluation in 2017 rather than rushing through changes to the appeal process for 1 October 2014."
