Pure Gym move into Edinburgh’s Exchange Crescent

Edinburgh, 16 July 2014 – Pure Gym – the leading provider of 24hr gym facilities – is set to launch its newest branch at Edinburgh’s Exchange Crescent at the end of this month, bringing its total number of Edinburgh outlets to five.

Pure Gym will occupy 15,146 sq. ft. of space to house their newest Edinburgh Pure Gym, having secured a 17 year lease with landlord Standard Life for the premises at Exchange Crescent. The low cost 24 hour state-of-the-art gym chain operates more than 70 gyms across the UK, having launched in 30 additional locations in 2013. The firm currently operates four branches throughout Edinburgh, including the recently opened Granton branch.

The arrival of new tenants means that Exchange Crescent is now 56 per cent occupied, reflecting increased demand within Edinburgh for Grade A City Centre office accommodation, and the rapidly diminishing supply of such accommodation.

A total of 94,228 sq. ft. of Grade A office space remains vacant at Exchange Crescent, presenting a range of leasing opportunities for the largest single proportion of available office space in Edinburgh’s core. The premises benefit from excellent transport links as well as a secure parking area in the basement and an abundance of retail and leisure facilities in the surrounding area. Current occupiers in the building include Shepherd & Wedderburn, Grant Thornton, JLL, Buck Consultants, Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and Moody’s.

JLL acted on behalf of Standard Life. Ryden acted on behalf of Pure Gym.

A spokesperson for Standard Life commented: “Standard Life is delighted to welcome Pure Gym as a tenant to the building and believe the firm presents an attractive proposition to existing and prospective tenants and surrounding businesses.”

Describing the new site, Angela Crawshaw, Property Director for Pure Gym, commented: “We are delighted to be able to bring our fifth Pure Gym to Edinburgh and will continue to offer state-of-the-art facilities at a very low cost with no contract. The gym will provide local businesses, residents and students with a fully equipped 24/7 gym and up to 80 free classes per week.”

Craig Watson, Director, Office Agency, for JLL commented: The supply of quality Grade A stock in the core of Edinburgh city centre is tightening, and this will be exaggerated as we move through the year. Pure Gym has grasped the available space at Exchange Crescent, putting itself in an excellent location at the heart of The Exchange surrounded by blue chip occupiers. With a number of high profile tenants already in place, this deal reinforces the central location of Exchange Crescent.”
