JLL sells Greater Manchester hotel

Park Inn, Leigh acquired by Kro Hotels

Manchester, 30 June – JLL has sold the 135-bed Park Inn hotel in Leigh, Greater Manchester for an undisclosed sum to Kro Hotels Ltd, on behalf of LPI hotels.

The modern, purpose-built hotel is located within Leigh Sports village and was originally opened by her Majesty the Queen in 2008. The village is a £50 million multi-use sports, retail and housing development, and boasts a 11,000 capacity sports stadium and arena which itself generates high occupancy rates throughout the year for the hotel.

The acquisition forms part of Kro Hotels’ strategy to build a balanced portfolio of branded limited-service hotels in the UK. The new owners have taken the option to rebrand the hotel under a franchise agreement with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) with the property set to convert to a Holiday Inn Express.

Kim Eivind Krohn, Director of Kro Hotels limited, said: “This part of Leigh has been transformed in recent years and attracts customers from across the UK. The site is close to both Manchester and Liverpool, as well as the towns of Warrington, Bolton and Wigan.

“We look forward to the hotel rebranding in early August 2014 to a Holiday Inn Express, a well-established and extremely popular worldwide brand, following a full refurbishment programme. The hotel will be trading as Leigh Sports Village Hotel during this transition period."

Alistair Greenhalgh, senior vice president hotels and hospitality at JLL in Manchester, said: “The sale of the Park Inn, Leigh continues to reflect the significant increase in demand which we have experienced for hotel property in the first half of 2014.

“There is particular interest in hotels like Park Inn that already operate under an international brand yet where the availability of vacant possession provides flexibility in terms of future management.”
