Tetris Projects complete fit out of new UK innovation centre for smart transport technology

‘Imovation Centre’ opened today by Business Secretary Vince Cable

London, 12th June 2014 – Tetris Projects on behalf of Transport Systems Catapult has completed the 36,000 sq ft design and fit out of a new innovation centre for smart transport technology set to help generate up to £90 billion per year for the UK by 2025. The new innovation centre was officially opened today by Business Secretary Vince Cable.

Located in Milton Keynes, Tetris Projects were appointed following a vigorous two stage tender process for both the conceptual design and subsequent fit-out delivery of the aptly named ‘Imovation Centre’ (combining Intelligent Mobility and innovation). The new centre will help increase the movement of people and goods around the globe and position the UK as the world’s frontrunner in Intelligent Mobility products and services, from driverless vehicles to improved airport data systems.

With a huge emphasis on collaborative working, Tetris Projects provided a number of different workspaces to enable businesses to work in a number of different ways from open plan soft pods with screens to an amphitheatre with full projection facilities. Tetris Projects incorporated interactive tables into a sizeable workspace; a media wall and a full sized terraced seating area in the basement along with a hi-tech visualisation room.

Richard Harris, managing director of Tetris Projects, said: “Tetris has provided a facility that embraces modern technology and incorporated it within an environment that is both corporate and collaborative with a slightly edgy, urban feel. From the moment you enter you immediately feel as though you are somewhere slightly different. There are a number of traditional elements that have been combined to provide a flexible workspace to ensure that both full time staff and visiting staff can work in a constructive and communicative environment”.

Chris Powell, Chief Financial Officer of Transport Systems Catapult, commented: “We are delighted with our new headquarters and feel that Tetris has perfectly understood the brief that we presented. Our aim is to welcome all the leading minds from research, business, policy-making and the transport sector and use the latest technology to generate revenue for the UK. We now have the launch-pad we need to achieve that – a state-of-the-art UK-designed innovation centre that will showcase leading technology, welcome our visitors and encourage effective collaboration.”
