Rare nine acre seafront site for sale

Developer sought to take project forward

Exeter, 14 February 2013 – A 9.3 acre seafront site in Exmouth is being put up for sale by property consultants Jones Lang LaSalle as part of a wider regeneration scheme in the area.

Queen’s Drive, which boasts uninterrupted sea views across Lyme Bay, has outline planning consent for a new recreation and leisure zone.

East Devon District Council owns the site and is now looking for a developer to take the project forward. The development will include an indoor play and recreation area, a water sports hub, open space, a hotel or holiday accommodation, cafes, restaurants and shops, and car parking. The existing road will also be moved away from the seafront to improve access to the beach and the attractiveness of the area.

John Kinsey, director at Jones Lang LaSalle’s Exeter office who is heading the sale, said:

“It is very rare that a seafront site of this size is brought to the market, especially in this area. Queen’s Drive presents a fantastic opportunity to create an exciting, all-year-round attraction that will be focused on water sports and play for all ages. 

 “Its attractive seafront location has the potential to attract significant new investment from businesses that want to move there and visitors who come to enjoy what the area has to offer.

“We expect this prime development opportunity to generate significant interest.”

The site covers the area from the old lifeboat station to the far edge of the Queen’s Drive car park.

More than 500 people took part in the public consultation before planning consent was granted in December 2013.

Interested parties are advised to submit expressions of interest before the deadline at 12 noon on Wednesday 30th April.
