Jones Lang LaSalle reacts to high street taskforce report

Commenting on a report on the state of the UK high streets published today by the Distressed Town Centre Property Taskforce, Tim Vallance, Lead Director of Jones Lang LaSalle’s retail team said: “One presumes that Central Government will not  provide funding to reinvigorate high streets and our local authorities have no money. Therefore, the main source of investment in the high street will have to be private enterprise or corporates which will be almost impossible to coordinate.

“Maintaining the economic vitality of our high streets depends on flexibility, design and use and this is a change that the Government can help with through the relaxation of planning laws. A healthy high street should reflect a combination of current UK business strengths: There is no reason why telecommunication, technology and media sectors shouldn’t combine with financial services, residential and retail to produce vibrant and relevant areas.”
