Grade II Minehead Hospital to be sold

Jones Lang LaSalle to market historic site

Exeter, 28th August 2013 - Jones Lang LaSalle has received instructions to market Minehead Hospital on behalf of NHS Property Services.

Minehead HospitalThe construction of the new community hospital on Seaward Way in 2011 has opened up the opportunity for the sale of this attractive building which is now surplus to requirements.

A representative from NHS Property Services said: “This site was declared surplus to NHS requirements and responsibility for its sale was passed to NHS Property Services as new owners from 1 April 2013.

“We recognise the importance of this historic site to the town and we are pleased to have progressed it to the point of marketing, so that it can once again serve a useful purpose and the proceeds be reinvested in the NHS.”

The property which is Grade II listed was originally built in the late 1800’s as a public hall and then used since 1913 as a hospital. In the 1930’s the building was extended to the rear with the construction of a nurse’s home and police station. Positioned in the centre of Minehead with frontage to the Avenue and Blenheim Road the historic building stands on a site extending to around 0.26 hectares (0.65 acres).

John Read of Jones Lang LaSalle said: “Detailed discussions with West Somerset Council conclude that there are a number of options for the building which include residential, retail, health or leisure. We envisage that the building could go into a mixed use with an active ground floor restaurant, retail or community facility making use of the hall with residential above and to the rear.”

Jones Lang LaSalle has put together an information pack for potential purchasers providing detailed site information including a comprehensive planning statement and plans. The site is being offered by informal tender and offers an excellent opportunity to create a quality development in this thriving town.
