Bringing high-value hotel and retail brands to Gatwick Airport

The busiest single-runway airport in the world and UK’s second largest, London Gatwick is a major travel hub. The owners have spent over £1bn on improvements to Gatwick’s South Terminal, retaining JLL as a key advisor after we provided due diligence on the airport purchase. Gatwick wanted to take advantage of JLL’s retail experience – particularly with shopping centres – to attract the top retail brands that would maximise its non-aeronautical revenues.

We also spotted an opportunity to redevelop obsolete 1960s office buildings into a leased hotel, attracting interest from investors and hotel operators around the world.

In 2012 we signed an agreement with BLOC Hotels, bringing a new type of accommodation to Gatwick. BLOC’S 245-room budget boutique hotel has been built on top of the South Terminal, gives passengers access to a chic, affordable overnight stay, boosting the airport’s appeal. BLOC Gatwick, which prides itself on advanced integrated technology and high-end design, opened in April 2014’.
