New major hospital planned for West End Odeon site.
JLL secured planning permission from Camden Council to develop a major new hospital on the former Odeon site on the corner of Tottenham Court Road, WC1.
University College London Hospital NHS Trust is proposing a new 372,394 sq ft seven-storey block, with three roof gardens, for the land bounded partly by Tottenham Court Road, Grafton Way, Huntley Street and University Street, replacing the Rosenheim building, and include the redevelopment of the Odeon site, which has been vacant since the West End cinema closed in 1960.
The scheme, designed by Scott Tallon Walker Architects in association with Edward Williams Architects, will be used to provide a proton beam therapy cancer treatment centre and a 1,884 sq ft shop at ground level.
The application comes just over four months after the government announced a commitment of £250m to fund proton beam therapy centres in London and Manchester. Subject to consent, the development is due to complete in 2018.
