Planning permission secured at landmark Leicester Square development.
JLL provided planning, project management and quantity surveying advice that will result in the regeneration of a landmark site in Leicester Square, Central London. The scheme will deliver a 360-bed Radisson Edwardian hotel, two screen Odeon cinema for premiere events, an urban resort, multiple restaurants, bar space and other ancillary uses, including seven basement storeys.
This was a challenging brief that required significant consultation with the Mayor of London, Westminster officers and councillors and heriatage groups opposing the scheme. It also required close co-operation with the design and project team to deliver the necessary quantum of development.
Through positive dialogue with politicians and officers, carefully constructed through targeted pre-application engagement, JLL’s Planning Team was able to secure an innovative, robust and widely accepted planning application. We secured off site delivery of the residential requirement and a reduced level of planning gain, whilst managing the height and massing of the building in the context of protected viewing corridors, including Trafalgar Square and Whitehall, the proximity of the grade I listed National Gallery and the presence of four adjoining Conservation Areas.
