ChallengeSt John’s Hospital has programmed a modernisation of their Almshouse accommodation located within Grade I and Grade II Listed Buildings in Bath. The phase 2 modernisation project not only includes the modernisation but also the repair and refurbishment of John Wood House and Fitzjocelyn House in the centre of Bath. The project is immediately adjacent to other Almshouses and the main challenge was to complete the project without disruption to the residents. A further challenge was to create an energy efficient and comfortable environment for the elderly residents.
Solution Jones Lang LaSalle, project managers and contract administrators, liaised closely with St Johns Hospital to ensure that all works were undertaken with no disruption. Communication with all parties at St Johns Hospital was essential to achieve this.
Working with conservation architects, the listed building applications for the major alteration and the refurbishment works was achieved. This included the introduction of double glazing units to new timber sliding sash windows matching the original 1730 style, a first for Bath and probably England.
ResultThe project is being delivered ahead of programme and within budget.
